Console hangs while running VS demo on DM8168 EVM

Hi,

We are trying to run VS demo on TI DM8168 EVM with 16 channel TVP5158 add-on card.

We have ensured that NTSC video source is powered on before powering on the board.

We are using dm816x_sdk_05_00_00_11_vs_demo.zip available on TI extranet.

We followed all the steps mentioned in quick start guide but while running vs2_a8host_debug.xv5T, the console hangs.

We don't see anything on TV. In fact, the TV is not able to detect HDMI signal on any of the the two ports (TVP5158 HDMI port and EVM's HDMI port).

Please see the log attached herewith.

Can anyone please suggest what can be wrong ? Are we missing any step ?

Hi Sweta,

When you are inserting Syslink kernel module, could please the following command

insmod syslink.ko TRACE=1 TRACEFAILURE=1

This will give us more information on whether IPC_load and attach of M3 binaries has gone well or not.

Please provide the log after that.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for the help.

Please find attached log with TRACE enabled.

It shows failure for srcAddr and processor address translation and after that the console hangs completely.

Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong.

Looks like the vs daughter card is loosely fixed. Can you ensure the base evm+dc are properly mounted and fixed (with screws)?

Hi Tarakesh,

I ensured that VS daughter card is properly fixed with screws to EVM.

Is there a way to debug/trouble shoot this issue whether it is connection issue or anything else ?

Hi Sweta,

Have you used the uImage given along with SDK50011. Please use the pre-build binaries. The uImage with Integra SDK is different.

Hi Arun,

I am using uImage from pre-built binaries of vs demo folder only.

dm816x_sdk_05_00_00_11_vs_demo.zip (downloaded from TI extranet) has uImage (size: 2,189,996 bytes) in package itself. I am using the same.

One more thing I would like to mention is, we are using Uboot with DDR2 because we have DDR2 on our board.

I hope this should not create any issue for this demo.

Not clear; Are you using the uboot available in the dm816x_sdk_05_00_00_11_vs_demo.zip for DDR2? If so, it's not correct.

You can download the dm816x_sdk_05_00_00_11_vc_demo.zip and use the uboot (u-boot_DDR2.noxip.bin) from that package for your board.

Hello Tarakesh,

My board is with DDR2. so I am using the uboot with DDR2 support for VS demo.

As I understand, VS demo is tested only with DDR3, whereas VC demo is tested with both DDR2 & 3.

But since I have VS demo and DDR2, I used Uboot for DDR2 and run this demo for DDR2.

I hope it is clear now, sorry for confusion.

Sweta,

It is strange that it is not working for you. Can you try building interducati mode (details in the user guide) and see if you can get the out put .
