DM368 input at 60fps

My customer is looking at a DM368 to do MPEG-4/H.264, video encoding.

Looking at the specification, DM368 can do H.264 at 30fps. The video is coming RGB from a host processor at 60fps.

Question: what happens when we connect a 60fps input to the DM368 that it is capable of encoding only 30fps?

Should we slow down the processor to send maximum 30fps instead of 60? Is the video input processor of the DM368

capable to accept 60fps but can only encode 30fps?

  • Hi Teodor,

What is the resolution that your host processor is sending to DM368? If it is 1080P or similar 2MP resolution, then capturing 60fps data would mean extra DDR bandwidth consumption, even though you can select to encode only 30fps out of it.

This means, DM368 by design can be used to accept 60fps capture and encode 30fps out of it, but we have to evaluate the performance on your usecase specifically. I would recommend to save DDR bandwidth by dropping the frames from your host processor itself and sending out only 30fps. For smaller resolution like 720P or below, i dont think we would have a problem in either 30 or 60fps capture.
