Edge card connector for TMS320VC5505 eZDSP

Have you checked with Spectrum Digital?  They are the TI Third Party that manufactures the tool.

I am checking internally to see if anyone has a better PN.  I'll come back if I get useful information.

i am also trying to interface a small board to the expansion connector but cant find mating connectors.Can someone from TI give more information on this !!!

The edge card connector for the TMS320VC5505 eZDSP board exists only in the virtual word of Texas Instrument and Spectrum Digital engineering.[;)]

Please correct me, if I am wrong, with the correct part number.

In real word I  hack the different socket to use with this board.

Sorry for the delay in getting this information out to the community.  I am consulting with Spectrum Digital on identifying the correct connector to go with the eZdsp Board.  I hope to have this resolved soon.

Use an old PCI connector from old PC motherboard or buy a new PCI connector.

Only not PCI connector, but PCI Express.

I take a PCI EXPRESS 64 pos connector  2-1612163-2 from Tyco Electronics and widen a notch to 1.9 mm on a eZDSP board.

From Gerber files I don't see any trace in this space.

What I don't like to give advice to mechanically rework board with already installed a BGA part.

I think better choice is the 44 pin connector without a notch ABE22DHHD from Sullins Connector Solution, but don't get samples yet to verify and can't buy it from DIGIKEY ( 0 in stock)

Hi Paul,

I have followed up on your query with Spectrum.  There was indeed an issue with the edge connector in the current build of the boards.  It is being corrected in the next build.  Spectrum has also posted an explanation and workaround on their support site for the eZdsp.  Here is the link:

 It would be nice if you can supply the connector together with the kit or as an option for a few extra bugs.

Even better wold be a proto board with a connector.

    Because it is easy to miss right position, I don’t consider that put a board in the socket in floating position is right solution.

     Is it OK if your expensive peripherals will be damaged from this mishap?

    I ask TI to make a recall  rev. B boards and replace them with the rev. C ones and as a small token for lost time and delayed projects, based on this board design, supply a connector, soldered to the prototype board.

     This post was viewed more than 270 times. If each of us engineers, students and hobbyists leave same request, I consider we can make difference.

     If not, at least this is a good case for the article in Design News.

The work-around described on the Spectrum site is OK to use.  If anyone needs specific help to use it, we would be happy to provide it.

With revision B (current revision I received as of 5/25/2011) of the TMS320VC5505 eZDSP board, they have added additional pins to the card edge connector, so it will no longer fit the originally recommended socket. Anybody who needs a socket for their board should consult the semi-up-to-date page of technical references for the board at http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/usbstk5505/revb/ .

The quick answer is this: The socket that fits the current version of the board is MEC1-130-02-S-D-NP-A (Samtec) or SAM8118-ND (DigiKey). I ordered this socket and it fit the board perfectly.
