AM6442: Missing wlan0 (WiFi) network interface

Part Number: AM6442


I am using the evaluation board for Sitara AM64x (large green board).
However, this issue also reproduce on the new white/red evaluation boards.

I have built the image using Yocto and Bitbake.
I cannot locate the wlan0 network interface.

I have built many images with Yocto, and i do recall at some point i did have the wlan0 interface.
I am not sure if its changes made in TI repository or local changes, but i have tried to revert many changes locally and still unable to get the WiFi device to function.

I can see the correct kernel module seems to be loaded ( wl18xx and wlcore ), in some images i also see wlcore_sdio.
After a long time debugging, i am still unable to understand the reason for wlan0 interface not being present.

I have also tried various recipes from the Arago distro in Yocto framework and it has not solved the problem.
I am attaching logs files of various system facilities and information.

  • First, when you build the TI standard tisdk-default-image, can you confirm that the WiFi interface is setup and initialized properly? If so, we need to look for differences between the official SDK setup and your setup.

    As for your own custom setup, can you explicitly try adding packagegroup-arago-tisdk-connectivity to the list of installed packages? Try adding the below to local.conf to see if this improves things.

    CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL:append = " packagegroup-arago-tisdk-connectivity"

    The green AM64x evaluation board - TMDS64GPEVM - AM64x GP EVM development platform for evaluating Sitara AM64x processor
    This board does not support Wi-Fi. ( https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDS64GPEVM )

    The white/red AM64x evaluation board - SK-AM64  - AM64x starter kit for SitaraTm processors
    This board does support Wi-Fi. ( https://www.ti.com/tool/SK-AM64 )

    My tests were incorrectly done only on the green AM64x evaluation board, leading me to think there is a problem with the image I created.

    It seems the Wi-Fi works correctly on the SK-AM64 eval board.
