[DM8168]Does HDCOMP support the 1440*900 mode?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH1980

Hi all,

I notice that hdcomp venc(VGA on EVM) supports 1080p-60/1080p-30/1080i-60/720p-60 mode.

Now I connet the VGA port to the LCD. How can I configure the hdcomp at 1440*900 resolution?  Does HDCOMP support the 1440*900 mode?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

HDDAC outputs embedded syncs on the component connector and it supports all the 4 mode you mentioned above. VGA input to the monitor requires external syncs. VGA connector on the board is not having external syncs. So the VGA output of the board will  not be able to driver the LCD VGA input. Right now VESA modes are not supported on the HDDAC but we have a plan to add that. Again for driving the VGA moniotor external sync seperate IC is required to separate the embedded syncs to external syncs to driver LCD VGA monitor.

  • Thanks, Hardik.

"embedded syncs on the component connector" means Sync-on-green (Red, Green with Sync, Blue)? Could you give me some advice about external sync seperate IC. I think TI can provide this kind of chip.

And it is a software limitation of  not supporing VESA modes, isn't it? May I just update the PSP to get the function?

  • Hi,
Embedded syncs means Sync on Green or Sync on Y. By defaultHDDAC is configured to output YUV422. But we can change it to output RGB also with Sync on Green.

Currently we have used http://www.national.com/pf/LM/LMH1980.html#Overview LM 1980 Sync separator from National Semiconductors for our reference design.  Since HDDAC is not capable of outputting Vesa modes we have to tweak HDDAC with software to support VESA modes.  We are in process of doing that and will let you know as soon as we will have VESA modes working.  Data sheet for Sync separator can be found at

  • Matt,

SW is under developing to support those resolutions and you should be able to get from PSP package once SW is released.
