dsk_app building

Hi

I have trouble building the dsk_app example provided with the dsk6713. I managed to run some other example but i have a probleme with this one (i think i have a problem with dsp/bios projects).

When compiling, i have at the first time 160 errors, maybe 50 errors on each 3 c files: dsk_app.c, aic23.c, and eventually dsk_appcfg_c.c. Most of the errors are:

error: identifier ... is not defined. And the whole identifiers which makes error are those defined in tistdtypes.h. I tried to add include this file at the first line of the files: it works: dsk_app.c and aic23.c compile without errors. But the third file is unaccessible, because it is created by th configuration tool.

I don't see how to add this header in the file, i searched in the configuration tool and found nothing. I also checked the .tcf configuration file but found nothing on headers.

So what do i have to do? Can i add the header someway? But moreover why do i have all those errors. I think most of the people who bought the dsk haven't any trouble making the dsk_app running.

Do i have to do anything about the bios thing? I'm not very sure of that... I want to developp my programm picking ideas in this example, but i would like to do it without bios.

Does the bios brings anything else more than for the debug? I'm not sure to have understood what bios brings compared to csl alone? (i was to do a csl_only project)...

Sorry for all the questions, i've been recently introduced to dsp... I hope someone will be able to help me.

François.

  • just to make it clear, the identifiers i was talking about are those which have been defiened with Maj for the first letter (Int, Uns, Ptr, ...)

  • Francois,

To summarize: your application fails to build because of compilation errors in a DSP/BIOS-generated source file.  Is that correct?  I have a few questions about your build process:

    • Are you building this application inside CCS? (If so, what version of CCS?)
    • Have you tried using "Rebuild All" to force DSP/BIOS to re-generate this file? (This will also happen any time you change the TCF and rebuild the project.)
    • What version of DSP/BIOS are you using?
    • What version of the codegen tools are you using?

I have never seen a DSP/BIOS-generated source file fail to compile because it didn't recognize TI data types.  I definitely want to help resolve this issue.

  • Joe,

What i have done:  i first tested a few example which worked. Then i tested dsk app and it doesn't compile. For testing an example, i just copy all the files in the example folder into a new folder in My projects folder (which worked for previous example). That's why i think it's an issu with dsp bios. I'm going to test all others example i think, juste after i finish what i'm working on now. I precise i just copy the folder and try to build, as i have done with others projects... do i have to do anything else in th case of bios projects???

I compile from ccs and always use rebuild all.

Thank you very much for looking at my issue.

  • I tested a few more examples. I'm now sure the issue deals with dsp/bios. I built every csl examples successfully ( a few warnings but no error at all), but concerning bsl examples (board support library which i think uses bios) and bios examples i have several dozens of errors. It's always the same type of error (Ti variables aren't identified).

So i ask one more time: do i have to do anything before i can try to built an example (change settings in built options?... i try to change some settings without success...

So does anyone have had the same issue? I'm wondering if i'm not missing something... maybye an option...

Moreover, i just  want to get some ideas from the example: my final programm won't uses bios. I just need to use aic23 to be able to check my algorithms with line in and line out, but i won't use it on my board. Is there a simple way to convert the dsk_example, into a non bios one? What do i need to add to the source file (dsk_app.c and aic23.c to avoid using the configuration file?)

  • hey !!!

Where are you? This is your holidays???

  • Francois,

Based on your screenshot, there might be an issue with your DSP/BIOS installation.  I recommend updating DSP/BIOS to see if that fixes the problem:

    1. Close CCS
    2. Download and install a recent version of DSP/BIOS (do not install DSP/BIOS 6; I recommend DSP/BIOS 5.41)
    3. After installation complete, run CCS
    4. Go to Help->About and click the Component Manager button
    5. Navigate to Target Content (DSP/BIOS)->TMS320C67XX and select the newly installed version of DSP/BIOS
    6. Repeat the above step for C64X as well
    7. Save and exit from the component manager, then restart CCS

You may also want to update your codegen tools since you appear to be using an older version.  Here are some links to where you can download DSP/BIOS and CGT installers:
