suitable emulator for TMS320VC5505?

HI,

iam working on voice recognition system, and i need to use TMS320vc5505. i think this chip will be useful. in addition, i need to know the suitable emulator for this chip.

i have many choices, such as xds510, xds560 and xds100. but buth xds510 and xds560 have high cost

i want to ask if xds100 will be usful for me or not since it has low cost?

Hi,

It depends on your need but xds100 can do most jobs. It can download code and debug line by line.

xds100 is slower than xds510. And you need to use CCS4.

i don't know what do you mean by custom board, since this is the first time that i use TI.

i collect information about vc5505 hardware and software before i buy it.

I though you are developing your own board because you are looking for xds100.

If you are going to buy ezdsp, it includes on board emulator. You do not need external emulator to buy.

I recommend the C5515 eZdsp: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tmdx5515ezdsp.html

It has the same C5505/C5515 DSP, but more peripherals are routed from the DSP to the PCB (like USB, microSD, LCD, push buttons, NOR Flash, and expansion for RF modules).

All of the C5000 eZdsps come with an on-board JTAG emulator through USB (this is why there are two USB ports on the C5515 eZdsp).

Yes,

The C5515 eZdsp conforms to the MAVRK Spec for using TI RF modules: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/RF_Pinout_for_MAVRK

Like Bluetooth and CC1100.

On the current version of the C5515 eZdsp, this header has RX and TX swapped for UART and I2S, but we can bluewire the modules to account for this swap - It will be fixed in the next release of the C5515 eZdsp Rev B.

Hello,

You must power the C5515 eZdsp some way, but there are a few options:

1) Plug eZdsp into USB port

2) Spectrum Digital sells a battery pack that plugs directly into the USB port - http://www.spectrumdigital.com/product_info.php?products_id=237

Referring to the names in the C5515 eZdsp schematics...

3) Solder a wire to VCCUSB and apply a voltage between +2.7V and +6V (when plugged into a USB port +5V is provided to VCCUSB)

4) Solder wires with +3.3V to TP5 and +1.8V to TP1

To run the program, it must be burned into the NOR flash with the C5515_Boot-Image_Programmer

No problem,

To output to a DC motor, I would recommend interfacing to a DC motor driver (with H-Bridge) like the DRV8832 - which uses two GPIOs as inputs.

It is possible to connect a DC motor to the GPIO, but you must consider the inductive nature of the DC motor and the back electromotive force. Certainly snubber diode(s) or isolating IC/ amplifier/ H-bridge are required to protect the DSP from the large dI/dt when the motor stop spinning.

I believe two GPIOs can interface to the two inputs (IN1 and IN2) of the DRV8832.

See Table 2. H-Bridge Logic in SLVSAB3D.

Both the C5502 and C5515 have GPIOs available to use. But neither tmdx5515ezdsp or tmdx5505ezdsp have the DRV8832 on board.

Each eZdsp has a 60-pin expansion connector that you can use to interface to the DRV8832 (either on a breadboard or you can make a daughter card with it).
