AM623: Guidance needed for Buildroot RootFS

Part Number: AM623
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM6442

Hi TI Champs

Could you please give the helpful guidance to use Buildroot instead of Yocto project?

Some customer would like to use the simple RootFS. Hence thr Buildroot porting guide is needed for fast development.

If application note or website links are available for Sitara Linux SDK, It's also preferred.

Thanks.

Jack

  • Hi Jack,

actually we do have an internal proof of concept of this already for AM62x but it is not in a state it is ready for customer consumption. Generally speaking the need for Buildroot support is understood and acknowledged, and we already started looking for ways to make it happen officially, likely starting with AM6x family of devices. I do not have a timeline on this at the moment. In the meantime yes Yocto is our official solution. It is not the easiest to get started but there is plenty of examples/guidance available here and in other online resources. If you have specific questions we'll be happy to assist as much as possible.

    Thanks, Andreas

  • Hi Andreas

Than ks for your prompt resposnse.

Actually this is common request for AM335x ~ AM6x.

Earlier I recommended customer to refer MYIR reference if they need Build Root BSP.

    http://www.myirtech.com/tiseries.asp

MYIR' BSP is based on BuildRoot. And a new customer also want to use buildroot on top of AM62x rather than Yocto.

I felt the customer need the official application note regarding Build Root Porting with Processor SDK Bootload and Kernel.

The details of process is required to integrate kernel modules into Buildroot RootFS.

We'd appreciate if you able to point the appropriate website link for Buildroot Integration with TI Sitara BSP,

    Thanks.

Yes is is not an uncommon request, and we are exploring how to make this happen officially...

...we don't have this yet for AM6x and can't provide support for Buildroot at this time. Hence my offer trying to help based on our Yocto SDK.
