Hello Guys,

I am trying to generate artifacts for a custom tflite based Center-Net object detection model through the 'custom-model-tfl' notebook given in the TI Edge AI, but during the delegation process, the kernel is dying. I check the log files but couldn't gather too much information from there. 

Can you please help me out in interpreting whats going wrong here?

    Hi Prabal,

    Thanks for sharing the model. Can you set the following as part of the runtime options and check again?

    "deny_list":"19, 22". You can also add 18 to the list as the Mul layers are creating isolated subgraphs with only 1 layer, so they can be delegated to ARM.

    Hi Anand,

    I just checked the compilation by putting layers 18, 19, and 22 in the deny list. It worked! But I am more interested in figuring out which layers to put in the "deny list" by looking at the log file or network or something else because in the future we will be testing tons of models on TDA4VM and this information will be really handy while debugging.

    Hi Prabal,

    You can look at the runtimes_visualization.svg file generated in the artifacts folder to get an idea of the subgraphs getting generated.

    As such, our allowlisting logic checks for layers which are supported on HWA and creates subgraphs to delegate them to TIDL and the rest to ARM cores for processing, so you need not explicitly set any layers in deny_list.

    For Object detection networks, we support optimized detection post processing for following types of networks : https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-rtos-jacinto7/08_02_00_05/exports/docs/tidl_j721e_08_02_00_11/ti_dl/docs/user_guide_html/md_tidl_fsg_meta_arch_support.html

    However, for any other OD network types like center net network, we don't have the complete post processing optimized on TIDL so it is ideal to run the entire post processing in ARM mode to avoid individual layers going back and forth from C7x to ARM. Allowlisting takes care of most of the cases, but due to the multitude of non-standard layers present in the post processing part of network, it may be possible some layers may miss the check and so may have to be set as part of deny_list. We are working on making the allowlisting logic more robust for these kinds of networks as well.

    So in summary, you shouldn't be needing to set deny_list in the future. In case you encounter any issues, you can contact us, and we can help you with it.

    Hey Anand,

    That makes sense, so are you planning on including layers 18, 19, and 22 in your logic check for the layers? Is it going to be the part of next release?

    Also one more issue I am facing is that putting layers 19 and 22 solves my problem on TI Edge AI Cloud platform but when I am doing the same thing on my personal setup with latest version of edge AI Tools, it is again resulting in dying of my kernel.

    Hi Prabal,

    1) As I mentioned, we do have checks for these layers, it's about making them more robust for OD post processing. I have filed an internal Jira bug for tracking this issue, so we will address it, but yet to take a call on the release version. Please continue using the deny_list workaround in the meantime. 

    2) Can you share the exact version of edgeai-tidl-tools you are using for validation? Also, can you please confirm if you are facing the same issue as the one reported above, or getting some other error?
