AM625: How to output different images to the two video terminals

Guru 12245 points
Part Number: AM625

Hi,

I have questions about AM62x.

1. Is it possible to output different images to the two video terminals?

2. It seems that there are LVDS and parallel RGB outputs, but can they be used together? As long as I check with PINMUX Tool, I think it can be used together, but I would like to confirm.

3. Is it possible to perform DMA transfer at a specified cycle from an external device connected to GPMC? I want to capture the received data from the FPGA using the timer as DREQ.

Thanks,

Astro

  • Hello Astro,

    Thank you for the query.

    1. Is it possible to output different images to the two video terminals?

In TRM section 12.9.2 DSS Environment, DSS supports two types of display interfaces:

    • Display parallel interface via DISPC Video Port 2 (VP2) output

    • Two low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) interfaces, each with four data lanes and one clock lane, via Open LDI Transmitters (OLDITX0 and OLDITX1) connected to DISPC Video Port 1 (VP1) output.

Also in the AM62x starter kit evaluation board, there is one display that connects on 2 x 4 lanes OLDI and the second display that connects on HDMI.

It seems it would be possible to output different image to VP1 and VP2

    2. It seems that there are LVDS and parallel RGB outputs, but can they be used together? As long as I check with PINMUX Tool, I think it can be used together, but I would like to confirm.

To comment on the feasibility of using the LVDS and parallel RGB outputs together, i will check internally and update you.

    3. Is it possible to perform DMA transfer at a specified cycle from an external device connected to GPMC? I want to capture the received data from the FPGA using the timer as DREQ.

Can you please explain the use case in more detail.

  • Hi, Rajashri

    Thank you!

It is about DMA transfer from FPGA. I want to connect FPGA and AM62xx via GPMC and transfer data calculated by FPGA. Is it possible to periodically DMA transfer to AM62x by triggering a timer interrupt?

    Thanks,
    Astro

  • Hello Astro,

    2. It seems that there are LVDS and parallel RGB outputs, but can they be used together? As long as I check with PINMUX Tool, I think it can be used together, but I would like to confirm

Ans: Two displays using LVDS and parallel RGB outputs can be used together.

Regarding Q3, I will have to work on it with the team and then update you.

  • Hi, Rajashri

If you have any updates please let me know.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Astro,

Can you please open a new thread on the GPMC interfacing with the FPGA.

This thread mainly discusses about the different images output to the two terminals and have been answered.
