multiple frame support in H264 encoder/Decoder

Hi,

does the H264 2.xx version DM365/368 latest version codec supports multiple no of reference frames.

i found on the wiki page that encoder doesn't support Multiple no of reference frames, but decoder supports multiple no of frames ( mentioned in decoder h264_decoder_dm365_datasheet.pdf ).

i am confused if encoder doesn't support and decoder supports what does it mean.

Actually we are planning of our own h264 decoder for our web viewer , same time our camera will use DM365 latest codec packages.

so does we look for Multiple no of reference frames support in decoder design ?

please give some light on this.

Sujit,

DM36x encoder does not support multiple reference frames and there is no plan to support in future

DM36x universal decoder is capable of decoding a stream having multiple reference frames. You can get the list of features supported by universal decoder from

H.264 Decoder, Version 2.00.00.11 Datasheet at the location http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/codecs/DM36x/index_FDS.html

DM36x closed loop decoder can decode only streams generated by DM36x encoder.

Sujit,

Since you are using DM36x encoder, you need not have multiple reference frame support in your decoder.
