AM623: Ubuntu versions support

The SDK mentions that Ubuntu 18.04 is needed. Does Ubuntu 20.04 work too?

Regards,
Bernd

  • Hi Bernd,

The SDK is only officially validated with Ubuntu 18.04, but I heard some have run it on 20.04 or 22.04. Most would work, but some where in the SDK require a trivial modification. Let me check if I can get these details.

  • Hi Bernd,

as per some of the other related E2E threads, more and more people internally started to successfully run and use it on Ubuntu 22.04. I'm not aware of any Ubuntu 20.04-based users. Also I'd not recommend experimenting with 20.04 as it is not yet supported just like 22.04, so there is no difference really from a TI support POV. With this I would just go straight to 22.04 if one must use a current distribution.

I also just checked again and found that Ubuntu 22.04 was just recently added to the list of supported Linux distributions which is an important perquisite for this transition, see https://docs.yoctoproject.org/ref-manual/system-requirements.html Note that this is for Kirkstone, NOT Dunfell, which is what our SDKv8.x are based on. I'd expect us to start supporting Ubuntu 22.04 officially with the transition to the next SDK major version (v9.x) for which the plan is to use Kirkstone.

As for issues one would encounter that Bin hinted at, some 'apt install' package names for the pre-requisites change slightly (easy fix as you see the issue), and then this here https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1108107/am625-linux-sdk-supported-ubuntu-version/4119837
