AM3356: SDCard expansion using I2C - AM335x

Hi,

is there any option to integrate a micro SD card provision for a design based on AM3356 processor using I2C1..?

Curently all the dedicated SD Card lines from processor are allocated for alternative modes of operation.
So, we only have the provision to go for the I2C option for integrating SDCard option into the design.

Can anyone please suggest the Part, Reference or any conflict in going ahead with this design.

What is the use case. Are you looking to store large data into the SD card.

Please note the speed limitaion using this method.

Hi Sreenivasa,

was hoping to store large amount of data in available speed to the SD Card.

We only have the I2C interface available from AM335x for this SD Card expansion.

Is there any limitation in using this method or something to be taken care of from processor side..?

Is there any tested design of this on AM335x platform.

Also, do you have any idea on what the speed will be on reading/ writing to SD Card through this method..?

I am not aware on such a design that i could recommend.

I do not have any comments on possible implementation challenges or the speed.

Hi Sreenivasa,

Since there is no information available for SDCard operation through I2C, was checking the SPI interface for SDCard.

Whether AM335x is able to interact with microSD using SPI interface..?

also, is there any points from your exprtise on this interface.

Thank you for the inputs. I agree using SPI interface increases the speed. I believe SD cards have SPI mode support. You might want to confirm that.
