C6452 - Unused DDR Memory - How to terminate DDR clock input?

Hi,

I am using the C6452 for the first time. I will not be using the DDR2 memory interface on it and am wondering what to do about the Clkin2 input. Do I need to terminate it or can I leave it floating?

Thanks,

Matty

  • Hi Matty,

I am not an expert on this topic but in general I would suggest one of two things:

    - For input pins that are connected to a trace on the board I suggest terminating. If an IPD exists then pull to ground, vice-versa for IPU.

    - If the pin is left unconnected completely, you can leave it floating and rely on the IPU/D.

I would not leave a connected pin floating.

  • Please refer section 6.7.1 in Datasheet where it has been mentioned that "If the DDR2 memory controller and the Ethernet Subsystem are not needed, CLKIN2 can be tied low and REFCLKP/REFCLKN can be connected to VSS and CVDD respectively. In this case, the POR pin must remain asserted (low) for a minimum of 256 CLKIN1 cycles after all power supplies have reached valid operating conditions."
