TMS320DM368: Differences between TMS320DM368ZCEDF and TMS320DM368ZCED48F

Part Number: TMS320DM368

Hi,

My customer uses TMS320DM368ZCEDF and has delivery shortage.
They wonder if TMS320DM368ZCED48F can be used as replacement.
According to below old thread 48 means higher speed grade, but no more details are provided.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/396261/tms320dm368zced-and-tms320dm368zced48f-compatibility?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=TMS320DM368ZCED48F

TMS320DM368ZCED48F can be drop-in replacement for TMS320DM368ZCEDF?
(no hardware change, no software change is required?)

Thanks and regards,
Koichiro Tashiro

  • Hello Tashiro-san,

To my understanding that is correct, it should be a drop-in replacement with no software change required.

However I would advise the customer should get some samples to validate this, as stated on the product page we don't have direct design support anymore so while I don't personally see a reason it can't be a drop-in replacement after reviewing past E2E threads and the datasheet, I don't have prior expertise with this device to offer a guarantee that it is okay to do so.

  • Hi Ralph,

I am afraid the answer is not acceptable by customer.
This question is not "design support". Customer just wants to know differences with these part#.
At least someone in TI knows the differences, otherwise we cannot differentiate these two parts.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hello Tashiro-san,

When it comes to differences I can confirm the difference is the 48 means the higher speed grade. There is no issue confirming that. The devices are also pin compatible.

Is that all that is needed?
