AM3505 upgrade path

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3505, AM3517, DM3730

Hello,

Can you please let me know the recommended upgrade device from the AM3505?  Pin for pin compatible would be ideal, but not a firm requirement.  The ideal upgrade device would also offer solid imaging (graphics and video) capability.

Also, with regards to GreenHills ETM, the preference for development tools, in this case, is to only select products that support full ETM.  The question is, for the roadmap device described in the first question above, would that device support full ETM on our future devices?  In general, are their plans to support full ETM for our higher-end graphics-type processors?

Thanks,

Todd

  • The AM3517 is available now and is pin-for-pin compatible with the AM3505.  The only difference is the addition of the SGX530 3D graphics core in the AM3517.  Furthermore, both devices features full ETM support.  You can find these listed in the data sheet.  The pin names are ETK_*.  Also, depending on the video performance required, you might actually be able to do this directly with the ARM/NEON.  I believe our latest SDK now uses the FFMPEG libraries accelerated with NEON in order to do video decode directly on the ARM.  I believe this will work well up to D1 (720x480) resolution.

Are there other peripherals that are important?  If you mainly just need the graphics and video then the DM3730 might also be worth considering, but if you like some of the peripherals from AM3505 (ethernet, CAN, etc.) then you might look at the DM8148.  The DM3730 also has the ETK_* pins, but the DM8148 does not (ETB internal but doesn't pin out the ETM).
