TDA4VM: J721E - EL1 exception seen on cold boot

Hi TI Team, 

RTOS : ti-processor-sdk-rtos-j721e-evm-08_01_00_13

Linux : ti-processor-sdk-linux-j7-evm-08_01_00_07-Linux

On the above listed SDK version on J721E based custom board, we are seeing EL1 exception on cold boots. Some observations are:

1) This issue is more reproducible on cold boots

2) This is reproducible once every 10 cold reboot cycles

3) Kernel prompt doesn't come, but it is still responsive

    Thanks for all the details. We have not seen crash so early in the Linux boot cycle. Is that reproduced on EVM as well or it just happens on the custom board?
    Also since i do not see the command prompt in the logs is this a fatal crash or you end up booting to Linux even with this?

  • (1) Reproducibility on EVM -- We are not sure about that as we have not regressed EVM to multiple cold reboots. 

    (2) Regarding Command prompt in logs - When the issue is seen, command prompt doesn't come by default. But, the kernel is responsive (That means, when "Enter" key is pressed on console, it is responding). We got the logs provided using "sys-rq" commands. sys-rq commands work when "break" is sent over the console port and given the respective key option. The sys-rq command help can be obtained by giving CtrlA F, Enter key. Please find the sys-rq help pasted below:

    Using the kill-all-tasks option in the help above (CtrlA F i), we are able to get to the linux prompt when this issue is observed. However, before that, we try to extract as much logs as we could.

  • Further data points to check - the issue is seen with filesystem in UFS and OSPI as boot media. 

    Requesting analysis to check if this issue can be attributed to UFS.

    There crash seems to be coming right after the reserved memory is allocated. For testing and isolating could you remove the reserved memory nodes for remote Cores and check if this still comes up?

  • could you be more specific on which reserved memory ? and why do you suspect that?

    That's making us suspect. Can you try removing them?

  • It was a memory map mismatch.

    Team rebuilt the application with vision apps memory map and tested it for > 24 hours. The issue is not seen anymore.
