TMS320C6748: Trying to verify that the TMS320C6748 is a good choice for a new design

Two things to keep in mind here:

1) Will TI continue manufacturing and selling the TMS320C6748 processor for the forseeable future?

2) Will TI continue to be able to offer design support and answer hardware and software questions about the TMS320C6748?

We can no longer answer questions about the C67x software. Even though the software has no design support, we will continue providing it as a download on the website for existing customers. More information at

For the moment we can still answer hardware questions on the forums, but we may also need to stop supporting hardware questions sometime in the next year or so.

Thank you for the response Nick.  We have discussed the matter internally and will go forward with the C6748 at least initially as we have source code that supposedly is fully developed for the application.  The next step for us is to get the correct version of Code Composer to attempt to compile the source code.  I reviewed the information on the website and it appears that Version 4 to Version 12 are available for download.  Can you let me know which version is best to download for the C6748??

I also now understand that at least some of the DSP code was developed and created using the MATLAB Simulink tool.  I am working my way through that as well.

If we can start by getting the correct Code Composer version that would be step 1.

If you know what version of CCS was used to develop the original code, that might be the best place to start. Later does not always mean better, since the CCS team will often drop support for a processor from more recent CCS versions if the processor teams are no longer putting out software releases for that part.

I asked about that and have been told that they don't have that information AND the previous contractor is unlikely to tell them now since we took the project away from them.  Compiling timeframes are in the mid 2018 for dates.  If you can make your best guess and let me know if ANY should be avoided.  My initial inclination is to just try the latest version OR the latest version available in early 2018.

I would recommend you to use CCS v9.3: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO/9.3.0.00012. This is the version that was used to test the last release of Processor SDK RTOS for OMAP-L138/C6748.
