TDA4VM: Can't ping when porting PHY to SDK 8.4

Hello Champs,

Customer wanted to migrate PHY to ti-processor-sdk-rtos-j721e-evm-08_04_00_02, the PHY is linked, but it can't get the IP address. If set to static IP, it still can't ping. 

BTW, the PHY has been ported to SDK 7.3 successfully. The pinmux,rgmii mode are all correct.

    This might be very basic, but can you confirm if you are rebuilding the ethfw binary and replacing it in the linux kernel?

    Can you check if there is any difference in the following registers between SDK 7.3 and SDK 8.4

    • 0x0C000F08
    • 0x0C000F0C

    Which MAC port is the phy attached to?

    Which phy are you using?

    You can turn the tx and rx delays on and off in the phy using bootstraps in the hardware design. This is the usual practice. Please let me know what are they configured as. There will also be some phy register which has this information.

    Is this the complete output? If it is, then your remote cores are not running any binaries. So no ethfw is running. Have you changed both Linux and RTOS SDK to 8.4? or is one still earlier version?

    Below is the customer's latest reply.

    Customer can observe the rxd0 signal but there is no txd0. 



    The log shows that the received data come from PHY (mac rx), the destination addresses are not the platform, it should come from the router.


    The corresponding port3 phy can work and there is signal when using dhcp.

    Migrating PHY based on ti-processor-sdk-rtos-j721e-evm-08_04_00_02,  phy is in linked status, but he can't get the IP address.

    If configuring static IP as below, it still can't ping. 

    The PHY can work on SDK 7.3, but it can't run on SDK8.4. pinmux, rgmii mode are both correct.

    Is the customer able to read/write phy registers?

    If he is able to, can you check the tx and rx error count register in the phy address space if they are incrementing?

    There is no signal from MAC tx to PHY, but there is signal from PHY to MAC.

    Customer migrated BCM89610A2BMLG to linux,  configured static ip for eth, it can't ping either. The tcpdump can only receive signal from router (not local IP) but can't transmit. 

    mcu2-0 dts node is mcu_cpsw: ethernet@46000000 in linux.

    Also, We can try the MAC loopback test to ensure the MAC is working correctly or not first.

    To do this, follow the following steps :

    • Read the register at address : 0x46022330

    • Add 2 to the value read and write it back to the same register
      • you can write to a register in linux using command "devmem2 0x46022330 w ${original value + 2}"

    Customer migrated BCM89610A2BMLG to linux. It can't ping when setting static ip for eth0, either. tcpdump can only receive the signal from router (not local IP) but can't transmit. 

    The BCM89610A2BMLG  PHY (mcu main 2G) can run on linux, but can't run os rtos.

    I am confused now about the setup, I assumed the earlier setup. 

    Can you share a block diagram of the system and different experiments tried and the working and non working links.

    Also, for wherever is not working, can you do a MAC loopback test. You can find steps on how to do the test here.
