TMS320C6455: On board clock and PLL settings

Part Number: TMS320C6455

My customer is looking to add the TMS320C6455BCTZ2, which is a 1.2GHz part as a substitute for TMS320C6455BCTZ. It appears that the 1.2G part should be a drop in replacement for the 1G part, without a need to change on-board clocks or PLL settings. Am I missing anything? I didn’t notice anything in the datasheet that said the parts couldn’t be run slower than their marked speed. I also didn’t see anything to suggest that the internal registers changed with speed grade.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • You should not have any problem operating a 1.2GHz speed grade device at 1.0GHz.

I'm not familiar with the details of this device, but I know several TI devices have their speed grade information programmed into an internal eFuse during the final production test flow. Some software packages may read this information and automatically configure the device operating frequency to its max rated operating frequency. Therefore, I recommend you research how your software configures the device operating frequency and make any necessary adjustments if you want your system to continue operating at 1GHz.

    Regards,
