AM625: Fast boot implementation recommendation

as now we took the reference design from TI, use the PMIC TPS65219-Q1 with AM6204, and we would like to know if there is a fast boot option or some recommendations from TI? Because we think cold boot of AM6204 cannot meet the boot time KPI requirement, and could you please share the boot time for the AM6204 with TI's demo kernel and application as well?

And could you also provide the power consumption for all these low power modes defined in TRM? such as Standby, Deep sleep, MCU only and so on. After reading the TRM I think maybe the Deep sleep mode can be used for our fast boot design, but how can the PMIC to identify the wake-up source for the first time and another, as we now plan to use CAN wake up event to wake up the whole system.

Hi Weicheng,

What is your boot time requirement?

The default Linux prebuilt provided in the Processor SDK would take 20+ seconds to boot, but it can be optimized to boot Linux within a couple seconds.

Only DeepSleep low power mode is partially supported in the current SDK, some wakeup sources are still under development and not supported yet.

So depending on your boot time requirement, I can provide more details in each option.

The assumed boot time requirements can be like 2s from receiving wake up signal to output first process result, could you please share the boot time with the deep sleep mode? Thus, we can have a rough estimation to see if is possible to meet this KPI.

Hi Weicheng,

With optimization, it is possible to boot to Linux login prompt with in 2s. Of cause, the time is heavily depending on the use case, e. g. what hw/sw components should be initialized during Linux boot.

In the current partial support of DeepSleep in the Processor SDK, the resume time is <800ms. I measured this once in last September.

Thanks, could the PMIC TPS65219-Q1 support that only wake up by EN pin from sleep mode/standby mode and ignore this Pin after wake up;

Only transit into sleep/standby by the request from SOC from running mode?

And also, please help to provide the cold boot time information for the SOC.

I would like to know the cold boot time for the AM6204 with A53 only, other GPU or MPU inside Main domain shall be disabled for this case. To have look on that how much time is needed to boot this SOC with your kernel.

The fast Linux boot time I got on AM62x SK EVM (with most peripherals disabled) is less than 2 seconds, booted from OSPI, the time is measured from the first line of U-Boot console message from the Linux login prompt.

Hi Weicheng,

Regarding the TPS65219 EN pin, it seems it is an input pin to the PMIC to power on the device (AM625), it is not relevant to AM625 low power mode (Deepsleep). What kind of sleep/wakeup scenario that you are thinking of with the PMIC EN pin?
