AM3352: Proper Handling of Aged TI MCU

Part Number: AM3352

Customer's CM has a large quantity of TI AM3352BZCZA100 with 2018 date codes.

They found TI’s AN-2029 Handling and Process Recommendations. Does TI have any other App Notes that address risks of using aged components, or any specific concerns/risks with storing AM3352BZCZA100 for 5+ years before use?

CM found a few ICs that registered as a short between F6 and A1 pins, but it’s unclear whether a short like this could occur from improper storage or handling.

Is there anything else customer should consider trying besides baking/drying the parts?

Thank you for the query.

I am checking internally.

CM found a few ICs that registered as a short between F6 and A1 pins, but it’s unclear whether a short like this could occur from improper storage or handling.

I assume CM is the contract manufacturer. Checking if the CM followed the same soldering profile as followed for other devices or changed the profile to suit the older lot devices that are expected have solderability related issues.

Hello Kallikuppa,

Customer has advised that they have not changed their soldering profile and that the contract manufacturer has

also tried baking the ICs at 125 degree for 9 hours.

Is this the proper baking for this part and date code?

It is not clear if the shorts are a result of the soldering process or existed prior.

Improper storage and/or handling could absolutely damage parts!

I am not aware of any special bake needs based on device age.
