AM3352: AM3352 - Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

Part Number: AM3352

Hello support team,

Custom board

- nand flash : MT29F2G08ABAEAWP

- DDR : MT41K128M16JT

Modified source : am335x-evmsk.dts, am335x_evm.h, board.c, board.h

When uploading the sdk on our custom board, a kernel panic occurs during booting as shown below.

Can you guide me to the solution?

    The kernel log shows ubi access failed. It is possible to boot from other source instead of NAND then exam if you can access the NAND MTD device in Linux?

  • Hello,

    There are no other boot devices besides NAND

    To give you some background,
    This custom board is in mass production with SDK version 02.00.01.07.

    I updapted SDK version to 08.02.00.0024 and test, then this problem occurred.

    We expect hardware is no problem, just changed SDK version.

    But, I don't know the latest SDK support nand flash perfeclty.

    From the log, it seems to be an ecc-related error.

    Also,  When power on, before the booting start,  'omap-elm: uncorrectable ECC errors'  showed.

    Does u-boot properly support nand control (ecc, bch8 ...)?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

    SDK v2.0.1.7 uses u-boot 2015.02, which doesn't configure GPMC NAND in device tree, while u-boot in SDK v8.2.0.24 configures GPMC NAND in device tree. So I guess the issue is in your device tree configuration for GPMC NAND.

    One way to debug this is to dump the GPMC registers in both SDK v2.0 and v8.2, can compare them to see if there is any difference.

  • Hi Bin Liu

    Can you please let us know how to dump GPMC registers ? We need more detailed instruction to get GPMC register dumped on top of EVM at least.

  • Hello Bin Liu,

    We had a mistake at device tree.

    We added below source and it booted successfully.

    ----------------------------------------------

    &elm {
    status = "okay";
    };

    ----------------------------------------------

    Thank you for the guide.
