Selection of NAND for C6A8167/DM8168

Hi,

We are planning to use MT29F2G16ABAEAWP from Micron in one of our design with C6A8167/DM8168.

NAND Specifications are:

1)      Storage size 2Gb

2)      x16 data bus

3)      Page size of 1056 (1024+32 words)

4)      Device ID:  CAh

Table 21-13 of technical reference manual of C6A8167 mentions the requirement of 2048 page size for 2Gb NAND device.

Please let us know whether selected part MT29F2G16ABAEAWP is compatible with C6A8167/DM8168 platform.

Is it necessary condition that we have to use 2048 or higher page size ?

Thanks,
Sweta

  • Hello,

    This NAND device is supported.

  • Hi Marc,

    Thanks for prompt reply.

My concern is, datasheet of MT29F2G16ABAEAWP shows 1024 page size for 16 bit bus width.

Where as processor's UG doesn't mention anything about 1024 page size. Device ID is supported by processor.

Even Netra EVM's NAND is also MT29F2G16AADWP, which is also 1024 page size for 16 bit. Since this is working fine, can we say our design should also work ?

    Please confirm.

    Best Regards,
    Sweta

  • Sweta,

The NAND device on the Netra EVM is ONFI compliant.  If the part MT29F2G16ABAEAWP is ONFI compliant, the ONFI parameters will take precedence over the ROM table parameters we listed.  This simply means that the part MT29F2G16ABAEAWP with 1024 page size should either be ONFI compliant or have an I2C loaded with its parameters to have a successful NAND boot.

    Regards,
    Marc

  • Hi Marc,

Thanks for confirmation. This makes things clear.
