encoding D1 25fps to 1Mbps-2Mbps in DM36x

Hello,

i have a customer that wants to develop a video application, where DN365 or DM368 could fit, The customer wants to encode using H.264 and D1 resolution but would need a bit rate of 1Mbps or 2Mbps maximun. Customer has downloaded documentation for H.264 encoding in DM36x, but does not find if DM36x can achieve this bit-rate for D1 and H.264 specs. Pls. could you help me with this subject?

Many thanks

  • Hi Alberto,

DM365 or DM368, both can encode a D1 frame at 1Mbps or 2Mbps. Please refer to the datasheet of H.264 encoder and you can find out the details of the bit rate, rate control and other tools that can be enabled/disabled for the codec.

    Hope this helps.

  • Fisrt thanks for your fast reply

I and my customer have being seen tables in the H.264 encoder data-sheet (v 2.0), for instance table 2 in page 3 of the data-sheet (it looks that you can encode H.264 with D1 resolution to 25fps, and 2mbps), but we don’t know if they are meant to show the processing load of the processor or the capacity of the encoder for a profile in terms of frames encoded.

This encoding rate is too high for h.264.

Customer´s application is dependant of the compressing capability of the encoder and a bitrate of 1Mbps is the desirable goal. A bitrate higher than this will force the customer to consider other aspects of the project. Which sould be the maximun frame rate versus resolution we could reach encoding H.264 to get 1mbps?

    Thanks

    Alberto

You can encode D1 @ 25fps at 1Mbps without significant degradation in quality. Please refer to the recommended values for low bit rate codec settings in theH.264 datasheet,

    Hope this answers your question.

  • Hello

I’ve been analyzing  the datasheet "h264_encoder_dm365_datasheet_02_20_00_05" and I don’t find the recommended values for low bitrate. Pls. could you tell me where i can get this info?

    Thanks

  • Hi Alberto,

I hope the App Note on this URL would help.
