AM3505/3517 vs. omap_3505/3517 confusion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3505

I would like a clarification about the difference, if any, between AM3505/3517 and references to OMAP3505/3517 I've seen while reading the Linux kernel sources from the support packages.

I am successfully building a kernel for AM3505, but in the kernel source code, there are many places where this CPU gets classified as omap3505 or 3517. Hence my questions:

1) Does the omap3505/3517 really exists?

2) Could it be that the name started as omap3505/3517 but then suddenly the name was changed?

3) Assuming 2 is what happened, is it safe to continue treating the AM35xx cpus as OMAP3505/3517s? Should a real omap3505 or 3517 is released in the future, even more confusion would arise. It would therefore be good to know it won't happen...
