AM6442: Errata i2331 workaround

Hi,

My customer is development the system using AM64x and fast startup time is very important for the system.
Due to Errata i2331 workaround, a warm reset is applied at boot up and it takes additional >1sec boot time.

Linux SDK boot log example:

The customer does not accept that additional >1sec boot time.
Is there any other way to avoid the system lock up due to i2331?
The customer uses CPSW.

Hello Koichiro-san,
The i2331 WA is in board_init_f() in r5-spl.
git.ti.com/.../am642_init.c
I don't know any option to move it earlier.

How much additional boot time would be acceptable?

What is their boot time "budget"?

We can try to see if we can find a way to "compensate" for the time consumed by the i2331 workaround by saving this time somewhere else in the boot process.

Hi Andreas,

As the customer wants to keep the boot time as less as possible, there is no boot time "budget".
The workaround needs additional >1sec, so we need to reduce >1sec boot time somewhere else.

BTW, the customer cannot use below method. They cannot skip u-boot where they do multiple mandatory operations.

Hi Tashiro-san,

can you obtain a full, time-stamped boot log from the customer, and send it to me by email (not forum)?
(The time-stamping can be done with a program like 'minicom')

I'd like to look closer to see if we can identify any general area for "boot time savings". We can then discuss any potential solutions here in the forum for everybody's benefit.

I understood it is not possible to eliminate >1sec additional boot time due to i2331 workaround.
The customer is trying to optimize their boot process as much as they can.
Then, if they need further help from TI, they will provide the full log with the time-stamp.
