TDA4VH-Q1: MAIN Domain UART questions

Part Number: TDA4VH-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VM

Hello sir,

I have some questions for main domain UART.

The first question is UART0 in main domain, what's the use case to use 8 signals?

The second question is the other UART, such as UART1, there are 4 signals. But we always only use 2 signals (RX/TX). What's the use case to use 4 signals? and what's the difference between 2 signals and 4 signals?

  • Please reference TDA4VM TRM, Section 12.1.6 Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART), and let TI know if additional details are required.

    Thanks,

  • I check this chapter, but it seems that don't describe the use case when use 8 signals? Although commonly, we only use TX/RX two signals for uart.

  • Hi,

Below table and accompanying text from TRM, indicates that the DCD / DSR / DTR / RIN pins would typically be used for support of modems.

The CTS/RTS signals are used for flow control.  The datasheet for the device external to the TDA4VM should be checked to see if they are required or not.

There is lots of information online that can be reviewed on these pins and their definitions.   The TDA4VM EVM schematics can also be reviewed to see how UART pins were hooked up there.

    Regards,
