About DM8168 VPSS capture performance。

Hi,

I have signed NDA and get some document of DM8168, have not found the introduction of VPSS capture size. And in the datesheet of DM368, we can found the limit of ISID, just like,

• Up to 32K pixels (image size) in both the horizontal and vertical direction
• Up to 120 MHz sensor clock
• ITU-R BT.656/1120 standard format
• YCbCr 422 format, either 8- or 16-bit with discrete H and VSYNC signals
• Up to 16-bit input
• Color space conversion
• Digital clamp with horizontal/vertical offset drift compensation

where can I find the limit of DM8168?

Hi,

You will find the capabilities of the DM8168 at http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/litabsmultiplefilelist.tsp?literatureNumber=sprugx8. Please let us know if you are looking for any specific capabilities of VPSS. In general VPSS can capture up pixel clock of 165MHz and number of pixels in horizontal direction not exceeding 1920 pixels per line. There is no limit for the number of lines in frame/field upto 165MHz clock.

Thanks you very much at first.

We want to use DM8168/DM8148 to build high resolution camera, such as 5M(2456x2048) , 4M (2320x1780).

Can it be competent?

Hi,

For building camera you mostly need the ISP./ISS module. ISP/ISS is present in DM8148 but not in DM8168. So I dont think DM8168 will be able to help for high resolution camera. But DM8148 can certainly be able to support till 5M and above that is also supported.

I still have one question about the resolution. From the document of TMS320DM816x DaVinci Digital Media Processors Technical Reference Manual.pdf. we can see

From above introduction, Video display have limit of 1920 and video capture have up to 1920x1200 input port.

So DM816x cannot connect high resolution camera.

Is it correctly? Thanks a lot.
