Why power AM1808 EVMs DDR2 from LDO?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65070, AM1808, OMAP-L138

Hi,

is there a reason why both, logic PD and SPECTRUM DIGITAL power DDR2 Memory and controller from a LDO?

Is it possible to use a DCDC from the TPS65070 instead?

Thanks,

Thomas.

  • If you search on the TI website, look for this document: SLVA371A  Powering Freon with TPS65070 provides some guidelines for using 65070 with AM1808/OMAP-L138.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thomas,

All the static voltages are supplied via an LDO, because the core voltages can be varied to take advantage of the Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) of AM18x. There is no reason why one couldn't power all the respective rails from a single supply for each rail, however then you cannot take advantage of the DVFS feature.
