TDA4VM: TDA4AVM: How to use OSPI flash in Linux ?

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hi, TI Engineers,

Our SDK version is

            PSDK RTOS: 08_04_00_06

            PSDK LINUX: 08_04_00_11

It seems that ospi flash was enabled default in Device tree: k3-j721e-mcu-wakeup.dtsi

We are using OSPI0

But  after the linux system boot, we got below erros:

How to solve this problem?

Regards.

  • The ospi flash chip we use is MT35XU512ABA1G120AAT

  • Hi,

    Please clarify the following questions:

    • Is this a custom board?
    • Can you share the complete boot logs from the first line printed from the boot loader?
    • Are you using the SBL to boot from OSPI or the SPL?

    Regards,
    Keerthy

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    Is this a custom board?

    Yes.

    Can you share the complete boot logs from the first line printed from the boot loader?

    Are you using the SBL to boot from OSPI or the SPL?

    I am using the SBL to boot from SD card now. We want to update the ospi flash data after login into the linux system.

    Regards.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    I found linux sdk support Mircro flash  MT35XU512ABA1G120AAT by default.

    Our hardware circuit diagram is as follows, Is there a problem with this?

    Regards.

  • Hi,

    ti-udma 31150000.dma-controller: chan0 teardown timeout!
    [ 3.814329] cadence-qspi 47040000.spi: DMA wait_for_completion_timeout
    [ 3.822480] spi-nor spi0.0: operation failed with -110

    Indiactes failure with DMA. If you are able to boot to kernel prompt, then please share the following command's output:

    cat /sys/kernel/debug/dmaengine/summary

    &

    cat /proc/interrupts.

    Also please do another experiment. Please halt at U-Boot prompt and try the below command:

    sf probe

    Then see if the kernel OSPI issue is fixed.

    - Keerthy

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    If you are able to boot to kernel prompt

    No. not able to boot to kernel prompt

    sf probe

    Then see if the kernel OSPI issue is fixed.

    sf probe failed.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    I run below cmd in u-boot:

    but can not find bus.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    Do you have other suggestions?

    Regards.

  • Hi,

    Do you have a custom dts file or you are using the k3-j721e-common-proc-board.dts in the U-Boot?
    Please share the U-Boot dtb as well. Something basic is missing.

    - Keerthy

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    2425.dts.tar.gz

    This is the dtb and dts file we are using in uboot.

    Regards.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    Something basic is missing

    You are right.

    I Check the code and found the uboot dts node fss@47000000  disabled by mistaken before.

    below patch was the modifications what we have make in uboot:

    0001-weizhen-linux-7.1-ddr-ddr.patch.txt

    I  reenable fss@47000000 node:

    and after i run sf probe:

    Do you get the U-Boot command prompt back after sf probe or it hangs? I see '.................' do they stop
    or it continues to keep coming? This should ideally print something like "flash detected".

    - Keerthy

  • continues to keep coming

    '.................' keep comming.

  • This should ideally print something like "flash detected

    Hi,  I found after run sf probe, something wrong happend and block in read function.

  • .Hi, Keerthy,

    Do you have any idea of the print "...................." ?

    Regards.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    I chase the code, and found the "....." was print by function "udma_poll_completion()",  and this function was called by udma_transfer().

    It seems that ospi norflash has encountered DMA issues during both uboot and kernel initialization. What do you think of this issue and any suggestions is highly appreciated.

  • Hi,

    Couple of things to try for understanding the issue:

  • Hi,

    We went through the attached files. They seem to be based on 8.6 SDK U-Boot.

    We have few questions:

    • Is there any change in custom board as we observed that the DTS files are identical w.r.t TI common processor board.
    • Is CPSW/Ethernet functional or even any other peripheral working with UDMA functional?
    • Can you please do the below change:
      • &wkup_gpio0 {
        status = "disabled"
        pinctrl-names = "default";
        pinctrl-0 = <&wkup_gpio_pins_default>;
        };
      • Basically disable tjhe wkup_gpio node
    • Please share your defconfigs
    • share the output of the command 'md 0x47000004 1' from U-Boot.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    We went through the attached files. They seem to be based on 8.6 SDK U-Boot.

    A: Our linux sdk version is 08_04_00_11, not 8.6

    Is there any change in custom board as we observed that the DTS files are identical w.r.t TI common processor board.

    A: All the change we do in uboot is: 3568.0001-weizhen-linux-7.1-ddr-ddr.patch.txt, (ignore the commit message. and i have reenable ospi in dts now)

    Is CPSW/Ethernet functional or even any other peripheral working with UDMA functional?

    A: We hardly modified the code. I am not sure if somethere using UDMA

    Can you please do the below change:
    • &wkup_gpio0 {
      status = "disabled"
      pinctrl-names = "default";
      pinctrl-0 = <&wkup_gpio_pins_default>;
      };
    • Basically disable tjhe wkup_gpio node

    A: I change the dts file k3-j721e-common-proc-board.dts and rebuild the uboot, and replace the u-boot.img in SD card/BOOT

    Please share your defconfigs

    Yes so that GPIO disabling was to make sure that hyperbus was not selected. I believe after that sf Probe is working without errors. Can you confirm that? Also try booting to Linux after sf probe command is successful.

  • Hi, Keerthy,

    Do you have hyperflash on your custom board?

    Nop.

  • Hi Xie,

    Can you add a print in the function: detect_enable_hyperflash() under board/ti/j721e/evm.c

    & also add a debug print to probe function in drivers/mtd/hbmc-am654.c

  • Hi Xie,

    This is not expected. The reset value of the register should not be 0x6.

    Can you check where in the boot this value gets set by adding debug prints in the OSPI driver?
