Please let me know whether 4Gb devices are supported by AM389x DDR3 controllers?
If not please let us know how to support 2GB DDR3 memory in our design using 4 DDR3 devices of x16 bus width

Hello,
This device can support 4 DDR3 devices of x16 bus width. Please refer to the Figure "One-Bank DDR3 Interface Schematic Using Two 16-Bit DDR3 Devices" for an example of how to do this with 2 DDR3 devices per DDR EMIF.

Marc
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Yes AM3892X can support 4 DDR3 devices of x16 bus width.
My question is whether processor supports 4Gbit DDR3 devices? So that using only 4 DDR3 x16 devices I can meet 2Giga byte RAM memory?
Hello,
We are looking into the possibility of supporting 4Gbit DDR3 devices, but they are not currently supported.

Marc
Hi Marc,
Thank you for the reply. for curiosity purpose, why AM389x can not support 4Gbit DDR3 devices even though it has 15 address lines & page size support upto 2KB?

Hello Marc,
Your reply have been sent more than 2 years ago. Have TI done something in the meantime to support 4 Gb x16 DDR3 memory chips?
We're planning to upgrade memory interface from 1 GB to 2 GB in next revision of our design, so this question is pretty important for us.
Thanks,
Nikola
Hello Nikola,
Yes, if you look in the DDR2 and DDR3 Memory Controller section of the latest datasheet, it has been updated to show that the memory device capacity supported includes 4Gb (x16-bit only) devices.

Marc
