AM3352: Board reboot continiously with enabling watchdog config as static (Y)

Part Number: AM3352

Hi

I have observed the board is restting continiouly after enabling in defconfig in kernel.

CONFIG_OMAP_WATCHDOG=y

If we make as "m" board will not reboot cintiniously.

suppose if we as Y Controller reboots continiously..

Please provide the inputs how to over come this .

we are using SDK 8.2.0.24..

  • CONFIG_OMAP_WATCHDOG=y

If we make as "m" board will not reboot cintiniously.

suppose if we as Y Controller reboots continiously..

Is this the only change you made to the SDK Kernel default configuration?

Also can you provide a complete time-stamped boot log?

    Regards, Andreas

I am seeing above log will it be related to internal module ?

  • I don't have access to AM335x HW at the moment so I need your help to do some basic checks:

When you build your system using CONFIG_OMAP_WATCHDOG=m (your working scenario) I'm curios if the watchdog is even up and running in that case:

    • Do you see a message like "omap_wdt: OMAP Watchdog Timer Rev 0x01: initial timeout 60 sec" anywhere in the log (check `dmesg` once fully booted up)
    • Does omap_wdt appear in the list of loaded modules? (enter lsmod after boot)

I know previously it was working/enabled (see https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/915088/am3352-watchdog-timer-in-linux/3381558#3381558) but I want to double check about SDK v8.2.

    Regards, Andreas

    • Do you see a message like "omap_wdt: OMAP Watchdog Timer Rev 0x01: initial timeout 60 sec" anywhere in the log (check `dmesg` once fully booted up)- YES
    • Not able to see module omap_wdt even after enabllling "Y" in kernel

can you please help on this

  • This will need somebody to re-create this on AM335x HW so I assigned this to a colleague for follow-up. Will be back in touch soon.

  • Thanks  please let me know if there are any other config's to be added in defconfig related to watchdog..or any other changes

awating for your reply Slight smile

  • Hi Manu,

On my setup, I tired the following configuration "CONFIG_OMAP_WATCHDOG=y" and I do not see any issues. Upon boot, I see the following message from the driver: [    3.690732] omap_wdt: OMAP Watchdog Timer Rev 0x01: initial timeout 60 sec. Also, if the module is built as part of Kernel, lsmod will not list the module. My recommendation would be to run the following command to ensure omap_watchdog is actually part of Kernel:

    root@am335x-evm:~# cat /lib/modules/5.10.100-g7a7a3af903/modules.builtin | grep -i omap_wdt
    kernel/drivers/watchdog/omap_wdt.ko

From the driver and SDK 8.02 perspective, I do not see any bugs based on the experiment that I performed above. I have also attached my Kernel config as a reference.

    Regards,
    Krunal

  • 5758.defconfig.txt pleasefind the defconfig which i am using please check from your side.. wether its fine

  • Hello,

    1. Based on the defconfig, I do not see any major differences between your setup and mine.

    2. Did you confirm the following:

    root@am335x-evm:~# cat /lib/modules/5.10.100-g7a7a3af903/modules.builtin | grep -i omap_wdt
    kernel/drivers/watchdog/omap_wdt.ko

    3. In your debug log, I see "Welcome to Arago 2016.12!" BUT sdk 8.02 is based on Arago 2021.09. Are you not using the default filesystem that comes with SDK 8.02?

    4. Do you have a AM335x EVM and have you tried running the latest SDK?

    Regards,
    Krunal
