TMS320C6678: C66 Emulator - BlackHawk XDS560V2

Our customer is using our C6678 in many different projects. They have some question regarding to application.

In their system they are using C6678 DSP which is behind a JTAG scan bridge. They are willing to access and debug the DSP with our XDS560v2 emulator. Of course in order to that, the JTAG scan bridge must be configured to a “transparent” mode. They are able to reach the DSP by first configuring the bridge with a JTAG tool; then they are connecting the emulator. But this process is too tedious and time consuming. Is it possible for the XDS560v2 emulator to play back the “svf” file to configure the JTAG bridge prior the debug session? For example they have also a FPGA behind the same bridge and the FPGA tool is able to do this “svf” file playback.

Hi Shankari;

We are able to load and run our gel file when we are directly connected to the DSP. The problem is that the DSP is behind a JTAG bridge; and we need to first play back a "svf" file (boundary scan file) to make the bridge transparent before trying to connect to the target. My question is if XDS560 is able to play back a "svf" file?

Engin,

When you say, "the DSP is behind a JTAG bridge", are you connecting any external emulator?

Would you please share the snapshot of your connection details?

Hi Shankari,

Let me answer this instead of Engin Bey.

The C66 DSP’s JTAG is connected to TI SCANSTA111SM JTAG bridge’s #2 JTAG port. And the XDS560Vs emulator is connected to the same JTAG Bridge’s root JTAG port. We have the necessary “svf” file to program the SCANSTA IC to transparent mode so the emulator can see the DSP directly. We have successfully connected to DSP by first using a separate JTAG tool to program the JTAG bridge to transparent mode; and then connected by using XDS560. But this is very impractical.

Is XDS560 is able the send svf file over JTAG so we will be able to debug the DSP with only XDS560v2?

As far as I know, the answer is "NO".

However please contact support@blackhawk-dsp.com since this is 3rd party tool, not from TI.
