AM1808 power measurements

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808, DM3730

Reading this FAQ on the logic site:

http://www.logicpd.com/product-support/frequently-asked-questions-faq/what-difference-between-am1808-som-m1-included-kits-a

I discovered that the AM1808 SOM modules sold with the EVM and Experimenter kits have additional power measurement circuitry added to the PCB which seems to be wired to J13 PMDC Connector on the EVM.

We searched all Locig and Texas websites but were unable to find any board or adapter meant to connect to J13 to read those power signals.

The only board we found is this Wattson Breakout Board:

http://createnewstuff.webs.com/breakoutboardwattson.htm

So here comes the questions:

1. Is that Wattson Breakout Board sold on Createnewstuff.com an official (or at least supported) Texas/Logic board?

2. If not, is it possible to buy an official power measurement board for AM1808 EVM SOM ?

3. Is there any way to download the Logic Wattson software mentioned on the above page for evaluation without registration (which requires a DM3730 Torpedo Serial Number?)

Best regards, Gabriele.

  • Gabriele.

You are correct.  The AM1808 SOM on both the EVM and eXperimenter kits do have the additional power measurement circuitry.

A separate board is needed to read and display the power.

The recommended method to read the power measurement by Logic PD is to use an adapter board and a software application called Wattson.  This looks to be the one you have already found.  Logic PD is in the process of releasing the Wattson application. The Wattson tool gives real time readout and graphical representation of the power consumption. It will be downloadable for free with a kit registration from Logic PD’s web-site.

Here is a web-site where the Wattson Adapter board can be ordered for the AM1808 development kits.  http://www.createnewstuff.com/

The web-site explains how to connect the board and gives a quick overview of the board and the Wattson software.

I hope this answers all of your questions.

  • Gabriele,

Logic PD released their Wattson software for the AM1808 EVM.  You should be able to see this from your kits download page on the Logic PD website

You should be able to get the linux or windows version from this page too: http://www.logicpd.com/wattson

The adapter is orderable from this website: http://createnewstuff.webs.com/breakoutboardwattson.htm
