I have a customer who needs to play Video on a 5.7" QVGA screen. The video file format will be dictated by the reference design that he can most easily adapt to his application. The processor needs to also have USB Host, and 10/100 Ethernet. Touch screen is not necessary.

He would rather not have to use Linux in order to get the Video capability.

I am thinking of the Sitara Beagleboard.

Is there a reference design running video without an OS?

Is Sitara the lowest cost solution for him?

I would appreciate any recommendations for a low cost and low time for adoption solution.

    While there may be some ARM side video codecs available, the DaVinci line of products (ie. DMxxxx) are definitely appropriate for video enabled platforms.  Certainly a ARM-only device from the Sitara line with sufficient performance might be able to provide this functionality, depending on frame rate.

    I would suggest looking at the DM365.  This is an ARM926 class of device with video accelerators that can certainly provide the playback capability cited.  The TMS320DM365 Product Folder has links to the Linux Software Development Kit, the Evaluation Kit, and 3rd party partners for the Linux packages as well.  There is also a link to a DM365 based module from Z3 Technologies.
