Removing cursor on angstrom/beagleboard-xm

I need/want to make the cursor disappear from the desktop display, using prebuilt angstrom for beagleboard-xm (Angstrom-Beagleboard-demo-image-glibc-ipk-2011.1-beagleboard.rootfs.tar.bz2).

From googling, I found two techniques, one using utility 'unclutter', and one useing 'xsetroot -cursor'.  But, neither program exists in this build.

I need to do this from the command line using the serial port, since my USB mouse and keyboard don't work in this build.  Can anyone advise a way to do this?  Or, as a 2nd choice, a way to reposition the cursor into an inconspicuous corner of the display?

Thanks,
Ron
