TMS320C6678: OPUS encoder/decoder support

Part Number: TMS320C6678

Hi,

My customer is looking for OPUS encode/decode solution using TI DSP.
It seems C66x software is available, but it is very old (2014).
https://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/codecs/C6678/OPUS/01_00_02_00/index_FDS.html

Q1) Is this still supported? Does customer can use it?
Q2) According to release note, the codec was validated on C6678 EVM. C6678 is too expensive (~$150).
Does the codec work on cheaper devices, like C6652(~$22)?

Thanks and regards,
Koichiro Tashiro

  • Koichiro Tashiro,

OPUS encoder/decoder seems to be compatible with "Code Composer Studio version 5.2.1.00018"

Not sure, if anybody migrated the OPUS codec with CCS 9.3 or higher and tried out the build.

Q2) According to release note, the codec was validated on C6678 EVM. C6678 is too expensive (~$150).
Does the codec work on cheaper devices, like C6652(~$22)?

If it is validated on C6678, it is better to use C6678 EVM.

It is expected to work with minimal/some changes as the number of cores are different in both the devices, though it is the same C66x.

One has to look into the software design of the codec with respect to the number of cores utilized, etc...

Not sure how much effort will it take in making it to work on other devices like C6652 etc...
