TDA4VE-Q1: [TDA4VE][P2 ADC] Question for SK DDR usage

Project name: P2 ADC

SDK version: 8.05

We are investigate to use the SK DDR for P2 ADC project. The SK supplier suggest us two types DDR: H54G38AYRPX264 and H54G36AYRPX246.

But DDR supplier told us if we want to use 1CS product we have to implement/change BIOS to use BYTE mode. They think that It will be difficult to control 2 BIOS in line (other supplier vs SK Hynix BYTE Mode).

If we should use 1CS product or change to use 2CS product? What's your ideal?

Hi,

TDA4VE does not support byte mode LPDDR4 memories. Thus if the 1 CS part uses byte mode, it would not be compatible with TDA4VE.

Thanks for you clarification . How about to use H54G36AYRPX246 that is 2CS product. for this product we don’t need to use BYTE mode. Does it compatible with TDA4VE.

Hi Biao,

Looking on the website of SK Hynix, it appears this part number (H54G36AYRPX246) is an LPDDR4x memory, and LPDDR4x (VDDQ = 0.6V) is also not supported by TDA4VE. Do you know whether H54G36AYRPX246 also supports VDDQ = 1.1V (LPDDR4), or does it only support LPDDR4x? If it does not support the LPDDR4 mode, then this part would also not be compatible with TDA4VE.

It seems the H54G36AYRPX246 can support both LPDDR4 and LPDDR4x.

In addition we use the 1CS DDR before. Please note that SK H54G36AYRPX246 is a 2CS DDR. Does TDA4VE also support the 2CS DDR?

Hi Biao,

I am not sure which 1CS DDR you are referring to, but TDA4VE does NOT support byte mode.

Yes, TDA4VE can support either single rank or dual rank.

Could you confirm the TDA4VE can support 2 CS DDR(SK H54G36AYRPX246)? You said the TDA4VE can support either single rank or dual rank. Do you mean the rank is Chip selection?

Biao,

Typically I see "chip select" and "rank" used interchangeably. However, sometimes confusion occurs with LPDDR4 because each channel (16 bits) has its own chip select signal. TDA4VE has 4x chip select signals per DDRSS (2x chip selects on channel A, and 2x chip selects on channel B). It becomes confusing when a customer states two chip selects, but they are referring to a single chip select on channel A, and a single chip select on channel B.

In summary, TDA4VE can support up to two chip selects per channel.
