Difference between McSPI vs SPI with respect to chip select pins

Dear TI,

All the processors with McSPI configuration has only 4 chip selects any reason for that? Any multi core processor with more than 5 CS pins?

Hi Aniruddh,

Yes. Each McSPI instance can only have up to 4 channels (each with its own CS), but all our SoCs have multiple McAPI instances. Take Am243x as an example, It has 5 Main domain McSPI instances and 2 MCU domian McSPI instances.

Can you suggest any multicore processor with same configuration but SPI core having more chip select pins

Hi Aniruddh,

AM243x has 5 main domain McSPI instances. Each McSPI instance can have 4 CSs. You can use McSPI0 and McSPI1 together. It will give you up to 8 CSs.

Hi Aniruddh,

If you meant you need one McSPI instance to have 5 CSs, then there is no such SoC in Stara MCU BU.

Can you elaberate your requirement on all 5 CSs have to be in the same McSPI instance? Why 5 CSs on two McSPI instances do not work for you?
