AM625: Can MMC1 work with 8bit eMMC low 4 bit?

Part Number: AM625

Customer wants to connect two eMMC on MMC0 and MMC1, MMC0 as boot device, MMC1 as data storage.

But MMC1 has only 4 bit, can MMC1 connect 8bit eMMC low 4 bit only and work?

If the eMMC device support, Does the Linux driver support 4bit mode only for MMC1?

  • Hi Tony,

I am routing your query to our MMC hardware expert to comment on the hardware feasibility.

I believe the Linux MMC driver supports 1-bit, 4-bit, 8-bit modes. I will review the kernel code to see if there is any limitation.

  • The AM62x MMC0 port is the only one that supports eMMC devices. The AM62x MMC1 and MMC2 ports only support CD Cards or SDIO devices. Please refer to the MMCSD timing section of the AM62x datasheet for more information on the devices and data transfer modes supported for each MMC port.

    Regards,
    Paul
