AM6442: Inquiries about development environment and Safety communication

Part Number: AM6442

Hi Experts,

Our customer is considering to apply AM64x device to their next generation system. Customer plans to use Linux OS. They don’t have plan to do motor control, but,  they’d like to do some trajectory calculations for motors. Also. Customer needs support the industrial field-bus communication (like EtherCAT slave), and they’d like to support safety communication like FSoE, if possible. First of all, customer is asking following inquiries. Can I have your expert’s advice/comments on them, please?

  1. For debugging environment, does TI recommend customer to use Code Composer studio? If TI recommends customer to use other environment, would you share this information.
  2. Is it possible to synchronize Timer-interrupts with EtherCAT's distributed clock function?
  3. Is there any software kits/SDK that support the implementation of Safety communication (such as FSoE in EtherCAT) ?
  4. Customer is considering above software is running on Cortex-M4F. When anther MPU/MCU is attached externally for functional safety, would TI think  it is possible to run same software on other external MPU/MCU?
  5. When customer would like to use incremental encoders, would TI recommend customer to use PRU?
  6. Customer would like to know how data is exchanged (Transfer/Receive) between ARM cores and PRU. By using shared-SRAM ? by writing R5F’s TCM?

If you will share your advice/comments, it will be really appreciated.

Best regards,

Miyazaki
