TDA4AL-Q1: 4 channels surround view images are abnormal

Dear TI expert, 

        4 channels surround  view  images are abnormal  when run multi camera app select 4, save 4 raw image:

Please enter number of cameras to be enabled

but  images are abnormal  when run multi camera app select 1 channel

Save image is ok:

  • Sorror,  but  images are normal  when run multi camera app select 1 channel

    Are there any changes between 4 camera and single camera input? I mean, is the CSI BW sufficient to capture 4 cameras? Also are you getting correct output from camera? I would like to understand if the issue is coming from camera or in the usecase.

  • Our  camera is  1920x1300,  Does TDA4AL support 4 cameras, each with a resolution of 1920x1300 ?

  • Yes, it can support, but please set up the configuration of CSITX and VISS nodes accordingly. 

  • When I set  DES mipi rate is 1.5G, VISS can not  receive mipi data.  But when I set  DES mipi rate is 0.7G, VISS can receive 4 channel mipi data.

  • Are there any changes between 4 camera and single camera input? 

           --> There are No changes

              The mipi rate set by the deserializer is 1.5G. Running 2 cameras viss can receive images,  but running 4 cameras VISS cannot receive images

    There are many overflows, as per below log.

    [MCU2_0]     97.270326 s:  strmFIFOOvflCount[0]: 239

    This could be reason why your 4 channel output is not working.. 

    0.7G lane speed is not sufficient to receive 4 camera of 1920x1300 resolution at 30fps.. You would require to set minimum 1G lane speed for each lane to receive this data. Also please make sure to set this lane speed even in the deserializer output, because it is not sufficient to set it in just CSIRX.

              The mipi rate have set by the deserializer is 1.5G. Running 2 cameras viss can receive images,  but running 4 cameras VISS cannot receive images. Error log is many overflows

    Is the 1.5G set in Deserializer per lane? Also is 1.5G lane speed or data speed in deserializer? Is 3 camera working fine?

    Also please check if there is any change required in deserializer configuration for 4 camera. 

    As per my calculation, 1920x1300x12x30x4x1.2 ~= 4.5Gbps. So if you configure 1.5Gbps lane speed from deserializer, it should be sufficient for 4 camera output. 

    Which SDK release are you using? If possible, can you please check it in the latest release?

    Typically, for 1.5Gbps and higher, deserializer would have to transmit deskew calibration seqeuence, so can you please check in deserializer if calibration sequence is enabled?

  • I can't understand, Why I set csi_laneBandSpeed to CSIRX_LANE_BAND_SPEED_1500_TO_1750_MBPS, camera can not work fine. 

  • But when you set it to 1.35_to_1.5, does it work fine?

  • But, VISS has no dependency on capture/CSIRX. VISS is memory to memory module, which converts RAW data to YUV format. It has no dependency on lane speed. 

    So when you set 1.5 to 1.75Gbps lane speed, is your capture working fine? can you please save some RAW frames from capture and see if they look ok?

    Also one more question, if you change the output lane speed in deserializer, then does the camera fps change?

                    --> The frame rate of the camera is fixed at 30 frames

  • ok, then, it is not VISS issue, because it does not really depend on VISS. 

    This is strange. For 4 camera, is it possible to reduce fps and see if it works? Lets say, instead of 30fps, can you try 25fps, or even lower and see if it works?

          --> The frame rate of the four camera channels has decreased to 20 frames, but CSIRX still cannot receive the image

  • Yes, that points to something on the board. If it works fine on EVM, the same SW, if it does not work on your board, some lose connection or some HW issue on the board. Also the above image also points to some HW issue. Can you please check on HW? Please get schematic reviewed.
