AM69A: Jacinto high speed Ethernet and interface(AM69A, DRA821U)

Part Number: AM69A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821U, DRA821

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask high speed IF with Jacinto AM69A or DRA821U?

<Question1>
We think AM69A has 10Gb USXGMII IF.
Is there any restriction using another high speed IF(e.g. PCIe gen3) if we use 10Gb USXGMII or 5Gb XFI?

<Question2>
We think DRA821U has the same Ethernet port. Is there any restriction the same as AM69A?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Hirotaka-san

    You can use PCIe gen3 with 10G or 5G ethernet.

    In general, use of high-speed interfaces is dependent on the configuration of serdes lanes. If you see in serdes lane description (TRM section 12.2.5.1.3.1.1 @ https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/spruj52 ), You will be able to see all the high speed protocols which can be supported simultaneously. Each serdes lane can only have 1 protocol.

    We think DRA821U has the same Ethernet port. Is there any restriction the same as AM69A?

    Similarly for DRA821, The TRM (section 12.2.5.3.1.1 @ https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spruiu1 ) details the interfaces which can be used simultaneously are defined by which protocols are running on serdes. The limitation being here that one serdes instance can only run 2 protocols. For eg, serdes0 on DRA821 can run any 2 of PCIe, SGMII (or USXGMII or QSGMII or XAUI or XFI) or USB protocols as it only has 1 serdes instance. Where as AM69A has 4 serdes and it can run upto 2 protocol on each serdes.
