AM625: Kernel stucked while accessing GPMC revision register during GPMC NAND boot.

Part Number: AM625
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Dear TI,

I'm trying to implement GPMC NAND boot on AM6252. After MMC boot, I could program NAND flash successfully.

During GPMC NAND boot, linux kernel stucks while acessing GPMC revision register[GPMC_nand_boot_kernel_stuck.log].

In case of MMC boot, kernel accesses GPMC revision register without problem[MMC_boot_kernel_access_GPMC_reg_OK.log].

Attached two logs for the reference.

Here are partial logs:

[MMC_boot_kernel_access_GPMC_reg_OK.log]

?

Currently I'm using ti-processor-sdk-linux-am62xx-evm-08.06.00.42.

Could you please let me know if this is known issue or there is any patch to solve this issue?

Best Regards,

Honggi

  • Dear TI,

    I've added GPMC reset on the u-boot before jumping to the kernel.

    With the following function, the kernel stuck problem disappeared in case of GPMC NAND boot.

    void gpmc_reset(void)
    {
        u32 regval;

        regval = gpmc_read_reg(GPMC_SYSCONFIG);
        regval |= 0x02;
        gpmc_write_reg(GPMC_SYSCONFIG, regval);
    }

    Best Regards,

    Honggi

  • Hi Honggi,

    Glad you solved the issue. Thanks for the update.

    I am wondering if you can apply the same module reset logic in the kernel GPMC driver instead of u-boot? Can you please try the following kernel patch instead modifying u-boot?

  • Dear Bin Liu,

    I moved GPMC reset function from u-boot to kernel as you said.

    gpmc_probe()

    {

    l = gpmc_read_reg(GPMC_SYSCONFIG);
    l |= 0x02;
    gpmc_write_reg(GPMC_SYSCONFIG, l);
    udelay(5000);

    }

    Even though I added 5ms delay as well, the kernel stucks while accessing GPMC revision register.

    Before you release the official kernel patch, I'll keep the changes on the u-boot.

    Best Regards,

    Honggi

  • Hi Honggi,

    Thanks for the testing. Let's use your uboot solution for now.
