AM623: DDR4 MCU GPIO & Boot

Part Number: AM623

We plan to use AM623 SOC (either AM6234ATCGGAALW or AM6234ATCGHAALW)

Initially, we only want to use 48 GPIO and one USB2.0 port..

All other interfaces are not used.

(Like a MCU with GPIO and USB interface)

Questions:

1. Do we need DDR4 interface for our design?

2. What is the simplest way to boot?

3. What is the simplest way to program the boot code (in-system on board)?

Hello,

Are you planning to use A53 cores and Linux? Generally Linux systems will need an external memory for this sort of design. Please note that we do not support Free RTOS on A53 yet and do not support non-Linux drivers for USB on AM62.

Would recommend to pick a boot mode that is on the EVM.

Since you have USB in system, you can evaluate USB DFU

Hi Mukul:

Thank you for the reply and recommendations.

We will be using A53 cores with Linux, for the linux versions supported by TI external RAM is required because Linux requires a MMU however NOMMU variants of the linux kernel do exist (https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/next/admin-guide/mm/concepts.html).
