AM623: am6234 can not capture mipi csi camera data.

Part Number: AM623

Hello TI experts!

Our evaluation board has a CPU model AM6254, and it is connected to a MIPI CSI camera. We use the following command to capture camera data, and the camera data can be displayed correctly on the LCD:

  gst-launch-1.0 -vvv v4l2src device="/dev/video0" ! video/x-raw, width=1280, height=720 ! autovideosink

The display on the serial terminal is as follows:

The captured image is shown below:

However, when we use a CPU model AM6234 with the evaluation board and connect it to a MIPI CSI camera, the LCD does not display any image. At the same time, the display on the serial terminal is as follows:

The lcd only display string "please wait ..."  and have no captured image , as we can see from the picture below:

The SDK used for AM6254 and AM6234 is ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am62xx-evm-08.06.00.42.

One of the differences between AM6254 and AM6234 is that AM6254 has a GPU, while AM6234 does not.

Could you please advise on the reason why AM6234 is unable to use the camera properly?
Look forward to your answer and very grateful for your help!

  • Hi Weiyu,

This may be a display issue. To rule out any camera capture issue, can you try to save the captured images to a file instead of streaming to a display?

    gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src num-buffers=50 device="/dev/video0" ! video/x-raw, width=1280, height=720 ! filesink location=cam-cap.yuv

If this works for both AM6254 and AM6234, it means camera capture is fine and we can proceed to debug the display.

  • Hello,

As you mentioned earlier, there is no GPU on AM6234. However, your pipeline uses autovideosink and that uses waylandsink which has dependency on GPU. My recommendation would be to use kmssink instead.

  • Do we have any approach to make a fake GPU for rending like configuring ' virtual/gpudriver=" " ' to emty during rebuild the system with Yocto? But that seems a little bit complex for me, because I'm not expert on the software stack of graphic. BTW, I prefer achive that by update Yocto repo and rebuild it rather than make configuration by myself. Do you have any schedule to make specific configuration for am6234 which without GPU support?

  • Hello Weiyu,

Was the gst pipeline I provided working on AM6234?
