Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1707, AM1705
I'd like to design a board using one of the AM1705 or AM1707 chips, and have a few questions:
- If I want to program/debug the chip from a software suite (e.g., Code Composer Studio), is there a programmer/debugger that I can buy, or is there something I need to design into my board to allow for programming and debugging of the chip? Can I program/debug the system from the USB port on the chip, or do I need to use an external (e.g. JTAG) debugger?
- Assuming I would like to run some distribution of Linux on the system, which kind of RAM is compatible with these chips? How do I connect the RAM chip(s) to the AM1705/AM1707?
- Also assuming I want to run Linux on the board, what type of flash memory is recommended to be used with this chip? How do I connect it to the chip such that I can boot from it?
- Which Ethernet PHY and magnetics are recommended? Is there a document explaining how to design the Ethernet circuit? The PHY/Switch on the eval board looks like a bit of overkill for what I'm trying to do; I just need one 10/100 port. Also, the magnetics/RJ45 port used on the eval board (Halo HFJ11-2450E) doesn't seem to be available in small (e.g. < 5) quantities, so any suitable alternative would be nice.
- Is there anything else (other than maybe an RS-232 port) that I might need to be able to run Linux on the chip? I'll obviously have other devices/parts on the board, but at this point, I just want to make sure I have everything needed to boot and run Linux in a non-graphical environment.
I can't hand-solder BGA or QFN packages, but almost everything else is fine, so if you could recommend anything that is non-BGA and non-QFN, it would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help!
