AM625: Need help to test GPIO on AM62x SK

Part Number: AM625

Hi Expert!

We had testing on AM62x SK EVM for GPIO.

We followed https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__ANR3bSoQUtte3JSAV7ex0g__linux_academy_am62x__XaWts8R__LATEST  for testing GPIO.

Used below images:

SDK 8.6 version. Default image for SD card boot.

Below is the console logs for boot and testing GPIO.

We just used 2-GPIO selected right now for testing and we did.

1: GPIO1_16

2: GPIO1_11

Below are gpio banks we got on console:

root@am62xx-evm:~# gpiodetect
gpiochip0 [omap-gpmc] (2 lines)
gpiochip1 [4201000.gpio] (24 lines)
gpiochip2 [600000.gpio] (87 lines)
gpiochip3 [601000.gpio] (88 lines)
gpiochip4 [1-0022] (24 lines)

We did some observation on GPIO1_16 & GPIO1_11

Please find below logs for that.

##############################################################################################################################

On above test from SW side we are able to change signal for those two GPIO's , But not from HW side.

We are not able to see any changes on Oscilloscope.  Not able to see High and low signal on Oscilloscope for those GPIO's.

Is that the correct way or we are controlling wrong way?

If we are doing right way then why signal not changing on Oscillscope for AM62x SK?

FYI... on Oscilloscope we are able to see only LOW signal. not getting as HIGH even when we changed to high with above commands.

Thanks,

Suraj.

GPIO0 has an address of 0x00600000, GPIO1 has an address of 0x00601000, and MCU_GPIO0 has an address of 0x04201000. You can also find this information under Memory Map on Pages 34 to 36 of the Technical Reference Manual for AM62x.

Comparing this address information to the command output you provided, GPIO0 is base number 399, GPIO1 is 311 and MCU_GPIO0 is 486.

We did some observation on GPIO1_16 & GPIO1_11
    root@am62xx-evm:/sys/class/gpio# echo 502 > export
    root@am62xx-evm:/sys/class/gpio# echo 410 > export

A possible source of the issue is that the incorrect base number was used. Try exporting 322 (311 + 11) and 327 (311 + 16).

We are not able to see any changes on Oscilloscope.  Not able to see High and low signal on Oscilloscope for those GPIO's.

If the Oscilloscope measured around .5V to .7V, that means the pin value is undefined.Try changing the values with the new exported numbers. If the voltage still does not change, then the issue may be within the device tree.

Please share the changes you made to the device tree if the voltage does not change.

Note that /sys/class/gpio is deprecated in SDK 9.0 if you plan to change the SDK.

  • Hi Thanks for your response!

We are trying above two GPIO's on SK-evm with 8.6 SDK image.

Did not changed DTS.  From SDK 8.6 as it is used and tested.

    322 (311 + 11) and 327 (311 + 16). this number converted and tried GPIO1_11  : 322 & GPIO1_16 : 327

same thing we observed there (Not changing/Controlled signal on Oscilloscope)

Can you please re-confirm and give us.

On AM62x-SK-EVM  with 8.6 sdk default image it should work right ?

    Thanks,

    Suraj.

  • Hi Suraj,

    Did not changed DTS

GPIO0 and GPIO1 modules are not accessible with the default device tree, so the device tree must be modified to add these pins.

The process of modifying the device tree was shown in this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1255485/sk-am62-enabling-user-expansion-i-o-pins/4758806#4758806 . Follow this process, but change the pins to GPIO1_11 and GPIO1_16.

322 and 327 should be correct, but it cannot be confirmed until the device tree is changed.

Please also note that the SK-AM62x has a User Expansion Header for someone to easily connect to the GPIO pins. To see what GPIO pins are available on the User Expansion Header, find it in the schematic: https://www.ti.com/tool/SK-AM62#design-files > the file with _sch.pdf is the schematic.
