The kernel development completely comes from the Processor SDK. Using the Linux SBL (appimage) does not change how we develop the kernel and where we flash it. The Linux SBL only boots A53 SPL after which the job of SBL is done. A53 SPL once booted boots the A53 U-Boot Image and U-Boot then boots the Linux Kernel. This later boot flow (U-Boot -> Linux Kernel) is specific to Processor SDK and is independent of SBL.

So, you can follow the Processor SDK guides to work with kernel and flashing it.
